Junior Club for the Coming Year

2010 brings in another Junior club Year. We’ve come a long way since we started ! The coming season sees a few changes. Not only do we have our usual prematch parties (this year run by Kidspartyclub.ie), rugby camps and chance to be a Munster mascot, we also have a competition to win a Nintendo Wii, Christmas party for members in Thomond Park and a new club Captain – a certain Mr Ronan O’Gara!!

In October we had our very first Junior Questions and Answers event with three of Munster’s biggest stars – Paul O’Connell, Jerry Flannery and Jean de Villiers. The Q&A was held in Sunday’s Well, Cork after an open training session with the Munster squad. The event sold out in a matter of hours, and we hope to run a similar event in Limerick in the future. Members had to submit questions they have always wanted to ask these players, and the event was a great success. The MRSC would like to say a BIG thank you to Sunday’s Well for allowing us use their clubhouse for the event and to the players who were delighted to take part.

Junior member Katie Lyons, age 12, told us about the Junior Q&A and sent us in her photo with Paul O’Connell. She assures us he is actually a lot taller than in her picture!

“During the school mid-term break, we got up at 5.30 am and drove from Dublin to Musgrave Park to go to the Munster training session.  It was really cool we watched the players training, practicing their line outs and scrums.  We watched Jerry Flannery, Tony Buckley and Dougie training with the physio.  We went into Sunday's Well club house afterwards and asked Jerry, Paulie and Jean de Villiers questions. “


My day as Munster Mascot

Being the Munster Mascot was so much fun. When I first found out I was really excited because I have never done anything like that before. The day came and I started getting nervous but excited at the same time. When we got to Cork and stood by the gates my belly got butterflies. I could not wait to go in. When the gates were opened we gave our tickets. We went straight to get a programme I saw myself and read about me. Then we met Ger and he got my jersey for me which I then put on. Then we met everybody and stood talking for a while then it was time for me to go to the dressing room and take pictures with the jerseys. I got with the Ref and Shaun Payne I also met Tony McGahan. Then I went outside and waited the first player off the field from warm up was Donncha O'Callaghan he said "hi Fiona how are you". Then the rest of the team came in and had their team talk. Then Ronan O'Gara came out and said hi we started running out then we got our photo taken and I went and joined my family. I had a great day thanks to all who made my day so special.

Next day I brought my programme to school and showed my teacher, she then sent me to the principal to show her and she took a copy of the programme and posted on the notice board. I am so proud that I got the chance to be the MUNSTER MASCOT for a day I will never forget.

Junior Corner
Christmas Party, Volunnteers Needed

On Sunday 13th December, the MRSC are running their biggest Junior event ever. With over 200 Junior members in attendance, along with their parents, we need as much help as possible.

If you are available from 12 to 4pm on Sunday December 13th, please send your name, membership number and contact details to juniorclub@munsterrugby.ie with “Volunteer” in the subject line. We need 10 volunteers, so the first ten people will be contacted with more information. None of the tasks will be too strenuous. You may be directing members to the function room, or assisting Santa etc
