MRSC Choir Rehearsals Begin

by Ellen Fitzmaurice

The MRSC choir held their first rehearsal on April 1st. Since then, we have held six rehearsals between Cork and Limerick. The choir has 32 members who represent all 6 counties in Munster and includes all four voice types; Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Bass. We are primarily focusing on rugby anthems, but we will be branching out to popular, gospel and jazz numbers.

The choir is conducted by Anita Mahon. A Wexford native, Anita has been absorbed in diverse aspects of music and performance from an early age.  She holds a Performers Diploma in Piano from Trinity College London and is a graduate of Music Performance and Production from Galway Community College where she received the Music Student of the Year Award in 2004.  In 2006 she trained as a Natural Voice Practitioner under the guidance of the acclaimed vocalist and Natural Voice Network Uk founder, Frankie Armstrong. She was Assistant Director for Galway Choral Association and has been Vocal Tutor with the Power Performance Academy in Galway since 2005.  She is also Musical Director of the Renmore Youth Singers.   In 2007, she travelled to Thailand to sing on a cd recording of Irish and Yoga Kirtan music which was directed by Galway based singer/ song writer Jack Harrison.  Her musical explorations continued in Australia where she performed and worked with choirs in Sydney and Melbourne. Anita is no stranger to the stage and absolutely loves to tread the boards.  She is a solo vocalist in Dunguaire Castle, Kinvara and in October 2007 she made her solo debut at the Cork Jazz Festival.  She is a member of The Swingettes, female a cappella jazz trio, who perform black tie and corporate events and festivals.   An avid sports fan, Anita is absolutely thrilled to be bringing together her sporting and music passions as conductor of the exciting new Munster Rugby Supporters Club Choir.
