Here we go again

by Glen Flanagan

It seems as if it was only last week that we were celebrating our second Heineken Cup triumph and now we are starting to get ready for an assault on becoming only the second side to win the Cup for the third time.

The renewal period is now closed for Full and Associate members and I am delighted to say that we have exceeded all expectations with the huge figure of 9577 adults being members of the Munster Rugby Supporters Club.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members who have renewed and also thank all those new Associate Members who have joined the club for the coming season.

For all those New Associate Members that have joined the club, you can look forward to by-Monthly Red Alerts, our e-zine which is written by the members for the members, and also our weekly newsletter, Red Letter which will give all supporters up-to-date relevant information.

For all members this year, if promises to be one of the most exciting years of them all.
The committee are currently negotiating the fit-out and the lease of bar facilities in the West Stand of the new Thomond Park Stadium, which will give the club a meeting place for all members to congregate both before and after games in the new Thomond Park Stadium.

The new stadium is due to be ready for early October, with the official opening being the mouth watering tie against the All Blacks, for which the MRSC have been given an allocation of 5200 tickets, to be distributed to Full Members firstly, and the Associate Members in accordance with our constitution.

At the recent AGM, we gained two new committee members in Noel Stewert from Limerick and Darren Desmond from Cork, who I think will be great additions to Sean Meade, Ian Buckley, Elaine Blackshields, Ger Harrington, Eileesh Buckley and club manager Jennifer Kiernan.

As chairman for the coming season, I see our main challenge in trying to get our hands on as many ticket returns for Heineken Cup matches in Thomond Park from away teams, so that they can be distributed to our Associate Membership, whilst not losing sight of the needs of all members and to also provide a first-class facility for our members in the new Thomond Park.

It promises to be an exciting year both on and off the pitch, here’s hoping there is a trophy to hold at end of this year.
